Los Angeles Art Patron Eli Broad has chosen Grand Avenue in Downtown LA as the construction site for his new museum, which could possibly be completed as early as the end of 2012.
The 120,000-square-foot contemporary art museum will house works from Broad’s behemoth art collection, one that includes works by Warhol, Baldessari, Koons, Lichtenstein, Dali and Miro.
The new museum will occupy the space
-next door to Walt Disney Concert Hall
–across the street from MOCA
–across from Colburn School of Music.
in the neighborhood of LA OPERA and Dorothy Chandler Pavillion
A quadrangle of arts and music
Mr. Broad selected New York firm Diller, Scofidio + Renfro to design the 120,000-square-foot museum. The firm has previously been involved in the renovation of Lincoln Center in New York City and the design for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.
During the renaissance of Downtown LA culture, Mr. Broad has proved a modern-day Medici. He saved MOCA from financial collapse in 2008 and raised funds for the construction of Walt Disney Concert Hall. Furthermore, Mr. Broad and wife Edythe helped to create BCAM, the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA through the largest donation ever donated to that institution.
If there were any doubts that Los Angeles is this Millennium’s arts Mecca, here is one more stop on the pilgrimage.
